Coaching

Arnold Sanow has worked as a business strategist, personal development coach and professional speaker for more than twenty years, and has mentored hundreds of clients one to one. Coaching here is not a script. It is a working relationship, built to fit the person and the problem in front of it, from a single struggling manager to a whole leadership team.

How it works

You work as a team, not through a curriculum

Arnold starts by identifying the real challenges, concerns, strengths and weaknesses in front of him, whether that is one executive, one team or one specific behavior that keeps showing up at the wrong moment. From there he and the client build the skills together. Nothing below is delivered off a shelf, and every one of these can run virtually or in person.

One to one

Executive and Corporate Coaching

For managers, leaders, executives and employees who need a sounding board that will also push back. Sessions are built around whichever of the areas below is actually the problem, not a fixed program every client gets the same way.

Areas covered

  • Conflict management
  • Executive communication
  • People skills
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Presentation skills
  • Personal presence and confidence
  • Goal setting
  • Leadership development
  • Management development
  • Strategic planning
  • Stress management
  • Sustaining growth
  • Decision making
  • Handling difficult people
  • Meeting sales goals
  • Clarifying priorities
  • Acting as a sounding board

One to one

Personal Growth and Life Coaching

For confidence, direction, balance and peace of mind, and for breaking the self defeating behaviors that quietly cap a career or a working relationship. Arnold also works specifically with clients on overcoming speaker's anxiety and building a personal presence that holds up under pressure, drawn from the same material he teaches on stage.

Groups

Group and Team Coaching

Facilitation for teams, boards of directors, senior management and entrepreneurs who need an outside voice in the room. Arnold has facilitated sessions for groups ranging from a single department to a full board, working through the same real challenges, concerns, strengths and weaknesses approach he uses one to one.

The alternative to letting someone go

Personal Performance Plan, also called the Corrective Action Plan

Built for the manager who is technically strong but cannot connect with people, the one whose team is quietly frustrated and whose numbers still look fine, right up until they do not. Instead of a single training day or a written warning, this is a four month intensive one to one program built around that specific person.

  1. Step 1

    The visit

Arnold comes to the client's location and meets the person who is being coached in person, not over a video call as a first impression. He also meets everyone who works for and with that person, so the plan is built on more than one point of view.

  2. Step 2

    The plan

From those conversations he writes a corrective action plan specific to that manager and that workplace. It names the behaviors that are actually costing the person their standing with peers and direct reports, and what changing them would look like.

  3. Step 3

    Four months of check ins

Weekly phone or written check ins hold the plan to a schedule instead of letting it drift, the way a single training day or a one page memo never can.

  4. Step 4

    Unlimited access

For the full four months the person being coached can reach Arnold as often as they need to, not on a fixed number of booked sessions.

The point of the whole program is stated plainly, and it is Arnold's own framing: this is the alternative to letting a valuable employee go. A four month structured plan costs less than replacing and retraining someone who already knows the job, if the actual problem is how they treat the people around them rather than the work itself.

For competitive bids

Oral Proposal Coaching

For teams preparing to defend a proposal in person against a live evaluation panel. Arnold works through the talking points and slides, runs practice rounds, and uses videotape and critique the same way he does in his presentation skills training, so the team walks in having already heard the honest version of how they come across. This includes personal presence and rapport work, since a technically correct answer delivered badly can still lose the bid.

Common questions

What people ask before they start coaching

No. Arnold coaches executives and managers, but also individuals working on personal growth, confidence, direction or speaker's anxiety, and teams or boards that need group facilitation rather than one to one work.

It runs four months, starts with an on-site visit where Arnold meets the person being coached and everyone who works with them, and includes weekly check ins and unlimited access throughout, rather than a single session that ends when the day does.

Yes, every coaching format here can run virtually or in person, including the Personal Performance Plan's regular check ins, though the initial site visit for that program is done in person.

Call or text 703-869-1881, or send a note through the contact page describing the person, the team or the situation. Arnold answers his own phone and will tell you honestly whether coaching is the right fit before you commit to anything.
